Are Facebook ads still hitting the target?

Facebook has 552 million active daily users.  Their competitive advantage thus far has been the ability to deliver targeted advertising that is relevant and integrated into the site in an unobtrusive way to key demographics.

Since the facebook float, there have been several changes to the site, terms of service, the promoting of posts, the sponsoring of posts and the introduction of more and more advertising.

Example 1 – Kingdoms of Camelot:

Not something I’m remotely interested in – maybe based on my demographics they thought it was relevant but they have so many details about me – my age, marital status, likes, dislikes etc that they could have utilised.

This example is subjective and could be a case of ‘near enough is good enough’ but is the first example of ‘unsolicited’ content – or junk mail in my newsfeed (maybe all my friends love Kingdoms of Camelot?)

Woolworths – 50c Innovation

Innovation, it’s the introduction of new things or methods of doing things.

It just sounds expensive. Do we really need to rethink the way we do everything?

When I think of innovation I think of process mapping, reverse engineering, reengineering, a process of cogitation, positioning, meditation, rumination, dissemination, deconstruction, reassembly, testing and perfecting, coupled with a lot of coffee and the odd nap.

Whilst this may the process for major innovations there are ways you can innovate that cost you as little as 50c.

VB Apology Letter – Looks familiar…

VB and NAB Apology Letters

NAB (National Australia Bank) Break-up Letter (LHS).
CUB (Carlton & United Brewers) VB (Victoria Bitter) Apology Letter (RHS).

I couldn’t help but notice some  similarities between VB’s Apology letter and the NAB Break-up Letter..  The drink, the pen, the layout on the desk – uncanny.  Looks to me like the Bank Executives and Beer Executives have identical stationary… at least Ari Mervis (VB CEO) actually used the pen to sign his apology.
